The new A.C. Milan stadium | ARUP

On 30th January A.C. Milan and Arup have presented their expression of interest for the redevelopment of a central area in Milan where they are proposing to build an innovative new urban stadium for the Club. The venue will include a modern stage for the home matches of A.C. Milan together with a hotel, a sports college, restaurants, children’s playground, green areas and spaces open to the city and dedicated to public use.

The project, developed by the architecture, urban planning and engineering Arup team in Milan is well rooted in the long-lasting experience the company has built on some of the most exciting sports projects in the world. At the same time, the new stadium aims at providing a unique experience to the spectators, with particular attention towards families, with cutting edge technologies and facilities.

The project has been developed with a fully holistic and integrated approach where all the design components have been carefully balanced around the spectator’s experience:

Sight-lines have been analysed and designed for every seat, with an Arup-developed parametric tool, in order to guarantee the best possible view from every location in the stadium;
Special VIP facilities include lounges and spaces with a direct view on the mixed-zone and on the route from the athletes’ changing rooms to the pitch;
High-tech solutions will be included in the design in order to enhance the spectators’ experience before, during and after the matches.
The stadium will include a moveable roof that will mitigate noise in the surroundings. This is only one many focuses on sustainability included in the design, addressed at many different levels, from environmental sustainability, to noise and energy, to social sustainability that required a special attention to the services dedicated to the citizens included in the project.
