EDA’s new identity to the cultural quarter of Helsinki is formulated with the architecture of the Guggenheim simultaneously defining and connecting space. The museum acts as the portal and threshold to this cultural domain, linking in with the old and new amenities in the area as well as the other museums in the vicinity. A public forecourt, blending the threshold between inside and outside space and blurring the lines between public and private creates a new civic realm. Suomenlinna’s proximity is paid compliment with its nature and integrity studied and interpreted to formulate an innovative seafront architecture, while Finnish woodwork is spotlighted against a neutral interior, showcasing its exemplary craftsmanship, with select uses throughout the museum’s various spaces.
