Rotana Hotel

The project of the Rotana hotel is part of urban planning of Al Abdali, new residential and business district of Amman, capital of the Jordan.
This project includes a 180 m tower raised on a plinth, the Podium, which includes the lobby and the restaurant of the hotel.

The building envelope is largely glazed. The rare opaques panels (technical levels, etc.) are of the type shadow-box with an external transparent glass giving to the building a fully glazed image.
The chosen technology is that of the unitized façade that is well adapted the high-rise buildings.

The facade units embrace the complex geometry of the building which is characterized by outer surface obtained by translation of semi-ellipses along a vertical curved line.
The units, flat and trapezoidal-shaped, are arranged in facets in order to follow the curved geometry.
A system of vertical louvers in anodized aluminum is attached on the façade and marks vertically the façades of the tower building.

In order to follow the geometry of the facade each blade is forced to align with the upper blade thanks to a series of pins that block the louvers in their final position.

All the glass are equipped with an high performance solar coating wich controls the solar gain especially for the most exposed rooms.

The glass of the Podium are equipped of a variable blue fritting accompanied by a a strongly reflective coating deposed by point, to enhance the solar control in public spaces and to reproduce the logo of the hotel chain.
The rear of the Podium is complemented by the facade of the Lobby characterized by its hanging metal arches support structure.
