An intriguing, yet private entrance to this home releases into a light-filled and transparent arrangement of living spaces with expansive views of Biscayne Bay. The south-facing residence employs various sun-shading strategies such as dynamic cantilevers and louvered walls to adapt the home to its subtropical setting. The home is raised above the existing grade to better accommodate the occasional hurricane “storm surge” and also to confront longer-term sea level challenges. A raised internal courtyard, however, provides the appearance and convenience of a garden lifestyle.
