Since the middle ages there was a house on this plot, home of a leather tanner. Unfortunately it has been demolished because of the nearby road reconstruction.

Besides the name the new house tries to capture the spirit of the old one, reinterpreting roof openings used for drying leather, wooden roof eaves and typical plot utilization, in a modern expression. Like the old house and adhering to local typology the house is covered with shingles wrapping down to the accented eaves - reminiscent of the old wooden gangways houses along this street once had. Timber frame structure is insulated with wood fibre panels, interior finishes use different types of wood, making wood prevailing material of the house.

The modern layout catches spectacular views from this historic location, on the outskirts of the medieval town of Radovljica. To the west, through large gallery gable windows, towards Mount Triglav, the highest peak in Slovenia and a national symbol. Towards the south, views open down on Sava river with Pokljuka range in the background. These commanding views enter all the main living spaces of the house through large windows, opening to the outside terrace and the garden surrounding the house. In the summer the terrace is shaded by the upper floor overhang.

Looking the other way, subtly blending into the panorama, Tanner’s House became another mosaic stone in the Radovljica typical skyline.
