[EN] The Km_RunwayPark, designed for the city of Tirana, is a public urban space, a theme park that does not isolate existing space but, on the contrary, unites the various urban fragments that surround it, both existing and under development, ensuring its role in the future urban development of the city.

The project is located in an area with exceptional urban qualities: a 50 m wide by one kilometre long void in the urban fabric left by the former landing strip of an abandoned military airport in the northwest quadrant of the city.

The project defines a clear and recognisable identifying image that simultaneously works at two different scales:
1-The Urban Scale, where the rhythmic alternation of different paved surfaces and/or vegetation produces an overall image that alludes to the structure of a text or a writing left by an abstract calligraphy that designs a vast canvas based on scanning, repetition and rhythm.
2-The Human Scale where, on the contrary, the design of each single area is differentiated according to function, colours, use, etc. This process creates a series of rooms, each different from the other and each with its own specific value.

The project features a singular unit of measurement: 1 km. It is precisely this concept of measurement that underlies the logic of the designed spaces, which can be perceived by walking the length of the project; if we take into consideration the presence of schools and universities in the immediately neighbouring areas, and thus a significant number of young people who will use this space, we gain a clear conception of the dimensions that range from 100 metres to 1 kilometre, with the final aim of dedicating the space to sports and recreational activities (fitness, running, basketball, volleyball, playgrounds, etc.).

Defined an identifying image and a strategy for the project, the specific functional definition of each part is open to different solutions and is therefore flexible to accommodate the most diverse functional solutions; in this sense, the project is intended as an open system. Within the system of the project are planned volumes for small building at the service of the public space as cafes, toilet, bookshop etc.

There are floors that north and south from gets in the existing building pattern. This will involve and not isolate surrounding areas already made, especially for buildings in the south realized without a general design.

The project of green areas has been defined with a strategy targeted to color choices, to choice of fragrances in the relationship with the architectural spaces. As well as the space is measured for the sport with a scan of 100 mt., Even for the green space is designed for units of measurement.

[ITA] Il progetto Km_RunwayPark per la città di Tirana consiste in uno spazio urbano pubblico, un parco tematizzato che ha come obbiettivo quello di non recidere lo spazio esistente, ma al contrario di unire i vari brani urbani limitrofi, sia quelli esistenti che quelli in divenire, a servizio degli sviluppi urbanistici futuri.

Il progetto insiste su una area dalle eccezionali caratteristiche urbane: l’ex pista di atterraggio di un aeroporto militare non più in uso, posizionata nel quadrante nord ovest della città e chiaramente individuabile nel tessuto urbano come un vuoto largo 50 metri e lungo un kilometro.

Il progetto definisce una immagine identitaria chiara e riconoscibile nel suo insieme; per farlo lavora contemporaneamente su due scale:

1-            La Scala urbana, dove la scansione ritmica di alternanza di superfici con diverse pavimentazione e/o vegetazioni, produce un’immagine complessiva di disegno che allude alla struttura di un testo, una scrittura ottenuta attraverso una calligrafia astratta che disegna una tela alla larga scala basata sulla scansione, la ripetizione e il ritmo.

2-            La Scala umana, dove al contrario il disegno dedicato di ogni singola area si differenzia per funzioni, colori, uso, ecc… generando delle  stanze, ciascuna diversa e con la propria specifica valenza producendo la differenza e il gioco, pur mantenendo la comunicazione e quindi la percezione unitaria e identitaria del progetto nel suo insieme.

Il progetto disegna una unità di misura intera, quella di 1 km. Proprio sul concetto di misura  si basa la logica dello spazio progettato percepibile durante la sua percorrenza; tenendo conto anche della presenza di scuole e Università nelle strette vicinanze, e quindi della giovane età di parte dei fruitori di questo spazio urbano, vengono evidenziate le dimensioni dei 100 mt fino al kilometro, con la finalità di dedicare lo spazio ad attività sportive e ludiche (fitness, running, basket, volley. playground.etc).

Avendo determinato una immagine identitaria e una strategia di progetto, la specifica definizione funzionale di ogni singola parte si presta a diverse soluzioni ed è quindi flessibile ad accogliere le più diverse soluzioni funzionali; in questo senso il progetto è da intendersi come un sistema aperto e non cristallizzato. All’interno del sistema di progetto sono previste delle piccole volumetrie edilizie a servizio dello spazio pubblico come bar, punti ristoro, toilette, bookshop ecc

Sono previste pavimentazioni che a nord e a sud penetrano nel tessuto edilizio esistente. Questo permetterà di coinvolgere e non isolare le aree limitrofe già realizzate, specialmente per i manufatti a sud edificati in assenza di un disegno generale.

Il progetto delle zone a verde è stato definito con una strategia mirata alla scelta cromatica, alla scelta delle fragranze a al rapporto con gli spazi architettonici. Così come lo spazio è misurato per lo sport con una scansione di 100 mt., anche per lo spazio verde è disegnato per unità di misura.
