For specialty chemicals company Lanxess, Broekbakema has designed the new headquarters in which culture comes to live. The transparent building is situated at the Chemelot Campus in Geleen (Netherlands), an international highly valued and innovative campus in the field of materials and chemistry. Broekbakema developed the master plan for the entire campus.

In Lanxess’ new headquarters, the managementdepartments and laboratories are combined near the production facilities. Theorganizational culture of the companyis being characterized by shortcommunication lines. This way of working is transformedinto a buildingshape, in a spiral flow form the different floors are surrounding the central atrium.The design optimizes visual contact through the whole building. The most common functions like conference rooms, library and flexible workplaces are locatedon the spit-levelfloors in the atrium. The new headquarters offers an attractiveworking environment: both as headquarters whereinternal communication and collaboration is stimulated and as a landmark for innovation at the Chemelot Campus.
