LE PARETI DI LAVA | Salvo Lizzio

With these images, we are proud to represent the renovation with demolition, reconstruction and rehabilitation of the conservative "Gallia Hotel", a short walk from the main train station and adjacent to the historic Pirelli skyscraper in downtown, Milan Italy. 

The project, created by Studio Archi - Star "Marco Piva" has seen the use of Etna basalt slabs with visible brushed and antiqued surface. 

For the first time, after a long and careful technical evaluation characteristics, the lava stone has been used to coat the vertical walls hotel. 

The project opens, then, the doors to the basalt extracted from Lizzio, which now constitutes an effective solution, where the designer is facing multiple problems related to the durability of the coating and the overall lightness of  entire system.

In fact, thanks to its own peculiarities, lava rock can safely be used in articles of thin thickness, that does not undergo any deformation.

Con queste immagini, ci pregiamo di rappresentarvi l’intervento di ristrutturazione con demolizione, ricostruzione e risanamento conservativo dell’ Hotel Gallia, a due passi dalla stazione centrale ed attiguo allo storico grattacielo Pirelli, nel centro storico di Milano.

Il progetto, realizzato dallo Studio dell’Archi - Star  “Marco Piva”, ha visto l’impiego di lastre di basalto dell’Etna con superficie a vista spazzolata e anticata.

Per la prima volta, dopo una lunga ed attenta valutazione delle caratteristiche tecniche, la pietra lavica dell’Etna viene impiegata per rivestire le pereti verticali dell’hotel.

Il progetto apre, quindi, le porte al basalto estratto dalla Lizzio, che ormai costituisce una efficace soluzione, ove il progettista si trovi ad affrontare i molteplici problemi legati alla durevolezza del rivestimento ed alla complessiva leggerezza di tutto l’impianto.

Infatti, grazie alle proprie peculiarità, la pietra lavica può tranquillamente essere impiegata, in manufatti di spessore sottile, che non subiscono alcuna deformazione.
