The Cultural Center Elckerlyc is a building that arranges various cultural functions; including a theater, a library and a music school combined with 18 apartments and a parking garage. The complex program is designed in a way that it suits as good as possible in the vulnerable urban setting of the village center of Hilvarenbeek. The cultural program is facing the public square Vrijthof. The residential program is facing to the adjacent residential area. The building volume has got an elegant silhouette by the usage of a modest height, a courtyard and a cantilevering façade. Deliberate use of materials, that in terms of color and texture matches the adjacent monuments, contributes to this urban integration.
The linear placed conservatory follows the building line of the alley ´Achter het raadhuis
´. The foyer in the conservatory connects the theater with the theater café and the courtyard. Visitors view the historic silhouette of Hilvarenbeek from up the foyer, with the characteristic church as a highlight.
