Villa San Giacomo is a tourist accomodation located on the hills surrounding Bologna.
The building needed an extension, which was conceived as a three-storey compact volume, characterized by an essential design, physically and compositionally linked to the existing Villa, of which exactly repeats the horizontal storey articulation.
The city facade, the northern one, presents few openings, basically connected to functional necessity; and towards the hills the front opens with three big overlapping windows for its entire lenght.
First and second floors, towards the hills, in the southern front, are characterized by the presence of covered balconies, planned as protection and mediation elements between indoor and outdoor. The new block is coated with ash heat treated lumber slats, binding to the Gypsum’s Park natural materials. The will is to pursue architectural values closest to material and chromatic elements typical of the environmental context in which it inserts in.
