DESCRIZIONE DI PROGETTO:

L’edificio, utilizzato come deposito di pesce per tutto il XVIII e XIX secolo, situato sulla costa di St. Ives costruita da John Smeaton (1762-1782) che protegge tutta l’area di Porthmeor dalle forti folate di vento provenienti dal mare.
La proposta progettuale riflette la richiesta del cliente di una casa con una successione di spazi vibranti con carattere e valorizzati dalla luce di St. Ives.
Gli ambienti diurni della casa dialogano con il mare attraverso l’ampia vetrata completamente apribile durante l’estate. Nello stesso modo le vetrate sul retro relazionano la corte di Pressin Yard con gli spazi più intimi della casa.
L’intero progetto oltre a rispondere in pieno alle richieste del cliente è configurato in modo tale da rispondere al contesto, sia urbano che storico.

Il Piano inferiore è il cuore della residenza e combina i requisiti funzionali di locali di servizio , impianti e stoccaggio (situati sotto Cottage St Christopher ) con le aree della cucina, la sala da pranzo e il salotto.
Lo spazio sociale è rivolta verso la spiaggia, con una zona salotto ribassata al di sotto del piano del resto del pavimento, disposta intorno ad un caminetto, e collegata su una terrazza esterna sulla spiaggia.
La finestra grande è retrattile per aprire lo spazio sulla spiaggia.
Il piano terra è lo spazio abitativo primario; la terrazza è arretrata dalle proprietà confinanti per consentire maggiore privacy sia per I proprietari che per i vicini.
Anche il primo livello è diviso in 2 settori distinti ma collegati: Cottage St Christopher e l'ex edificio Cafe entrambi adibiti a camere da letto e servizi opportunamente divisi in moda tale da essere completamente autonomi.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The building was used as a storage cellar for fish throughout the XVIII e XIX centuries, set on the marine barrier built by John Smeaton (1762-1782), which protects the whole Porthmeor area by strong gusts of wind coming from the sea.
The project proposal reflects the wishes of the client of a home with a series of spaces with vibrant character and valued by the light.

The rooms of the house during the day “dialogue” with the sea through the large glazed facade that can be completely open during the summer. In the same way the windows on the back, facing the Pressing Yard  Court, relate with the more intimate spaces of the house. The whole project responds fully to the demands of the client and is designed in order to respond to the surrounding contest, both urban and historical.

The Lower Ground Floor is the heart of the residence and combines the functional requirements of utility, plant and storage rooms (located beneath St Christopher’s Cottage) with the kitchen, dining and lounge areas.
The social space is located towards the beach end of the floor, with a sunken seating area around a feature fireplace, which leads onto an external recessed terrace at the top of the beach. The larger window is retractable in order to open the space onto the beach.
The Ground (Road) Level Layout is the primary living space; the terrace is set back from the neighbouring properties to afford privacy to occupants and neighbours alike. The large section of glazing is retractable to open up this floor to the external terrace and beach beyond.
The first floor level is similarly split into 2 distinct but linked areas: St Christopher’s Cottage and the former Cafe building.
St Christopher’s contains 2 en-suite bedrooms and a further bathroom with a protected stair connecting this level to the ground and second floors.
The former cafe building contains a studio/bedroom with en-suite at the Porthmeor Rd end which is linked via a gallery/walkway to an office mezzanine towards the beach end of the building.
