Saint-Sauveur Residence | ActDesign

The interior design and architecture firm ActDesign has won the “Highly Commended” award in the Interior Design Private Residence category in the Americas division of the International Property Awards, a competition based in London. The winning design was its residential project in Saint-Sauveur.

Perched at the peak of an imposing rocky promontory, this residence, built in concrete in the 1980s by an architect based in the region, was the dream pied-à-terre for the original owner. The mandate for ActDesign was to update the interior design and the exterior envelope. The concept was to be based on the notions of modernity, high-end materials, and comfort.

The new owners, a couple whose children had grown and left home, wanted to have a mountaintop refuge that would meet all of the desires they had accumulated over the years in terms of interior design.

The first bold move was to invert the floors. Given the spectacular panorama offered by the unique site and to maximize the use of space, it was proposed that the living areas be placed upstairs so that the view above the treetops would be highlighted. To make this design attractive, particular attention was paid to the entrance hall and the circulation toward the house’s upper floor.

Dans le cadre de la division Amérique du concours « International Property Awards » basé à Londres, la firme de design d’intérieur et d’architecture ActDesign s’est vue remettre le prix de « Grande distinction » dans la catégorie « Design intérieur pour une résidence unifamiliale » pour la résidence Saint-Sauveur.

Juchée au sommet d'un imposant cap rocheux, cette résidence de béton, construite dans les années 1980 par un architecte de la région, était le pied-à-terre tant rêvé par le propriétaire d’origine. Le mandat de ActDesign fût de mettre à jour l’aménagement intérieur et l’enveloppe extérieure. Le concept devait reposer sur les notions de modernité, matériaux nobles et confort.

Les nouveaux acquéreurs, un couple dont les enfants ont déjà quitté le nid familial, souhaitaient s’offrir un refuge haut perché qui répondrait à tous leurs désirs cumulés aux fil des années en terme d’aménagement.

Premier geste audacieux : inverser les étages. Face au spectaculaire panorama qu’offrait cet emplacement unique et afin de maximiser les espaces, la proposition de loger les aires de vie à l’étage permettait de profiter au maximum de la vue au-delà de la cime des arbres. Afin de rendre cette conception attrayante, une attention particulière fut portée au vestibule d’entrée et à la circulation vers l'étage supérieur de la maison.
