Located in Ginza , one of the most luxurious shopping district and commercial center of
japanese metropolis , the historic Max Mara store reopens with the new concept, designed by
Duccio Grassi Architects .
The store is 450 meters square, divided on two floors, located in the corner of Marronier dori
and Namiki dori.
The new look of the store stands out for the simple and effective design of the façade : a
slight embroidery in white plate as a membrane that surrounds the glass building , with the dual
purpose to emphasize the volumes making them more visible and at the same time betraying the interior building.
A new element is the raised wooden walkway that runs inside the store and highlights the
corner, always remaining visible through the design of the external membrane and only in
some parts becoming shop window.
The entrance of the store , which is also framed by a white portal , is characterized by the
presence of two large screens that tell the brand story with images and sounds.
The most important feature is natural light that shines through the facade and becomes
basic not only for the exterior design , but especially for the interior.
The new concept , designed by Duccio Grassi Architects, is characterized by pure lines,
organic materials, warm and comfortable, that recall the identity of Max Mara.
On the ground floor the main material is light wood, which makes the room cozy and elegant
in its simplicity.
Another recurrent feature is the lighting system with the presence of new chandeliers,
designed by Duccio Grassi.
Upstairs disappear the boundaries between what is external and what traditionally
characterize the interior : the façade becomes membrane of light that does not restrict, but
expands and enhances all the spaces.
To emphasize the brightness of the environment we chosen light materials like Oak wood, in
contrast to the new , metal wall, that replaces and reinvent the iconic wooden crust : two
different metals treated and etched, that matched with precious glass platinum elements ,
give character to the new volumes that delimit all the different areas.
Of particular impact is the accessories area, embraced by a warm half circle of fabric that creates a private and intimate space, giving the message of continuity between inside and outside, between tradition and innovation.
