Pig Rock Bothy

Currently located on the grounds of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art in Edinburgh, Pig Rock Bothy was commissioned by the Scottish National Galleries to provide a temporary venue for a varied programme of talks, performances and events as part of Generation - an exhibition celebrating 25 years of contemporary art in Scotland. 

In 2015 the bothy will be permanently relocated to Assynt in the far north west of Scotland where it will become the third bothy in the art residency network.
 

Pig Rock Bothy was designed by The Bothy Project duo artist Bobby Niven and architect Iain MacLeod, in collaboration with Douglas Flett Architects. The design is based on the idea of taking a bold and simple vernacular form and applying a playful twist in reference to the characteristics of the windswept landscape of Pig Rock’s future home in Assynt. 

Glasgow-based artist Laura Aldridge has produced a body of ceramics and textiles to furnish the internal space, inspired by a research trip to Assynt.
