New Student Campus | Anna Dolcetta

This project is focused on developing, on the urban level, an area of Brescia, a city on the north of Italy. Particularly the course was focused on the study of three different urban areas with particular traffic problems due to major traffic arteries. Brescia is a “fractal” city: looking at any scale it’s composed by small unequal pieces; a series of full and empty spaces that make the discontinuity the main characteristic of the city. I chose to work unifying two areas in the south of Brescia, one called “Ex Pietra” and one called “Ex Magazzini Generali”, and afterwards I concentrated on the area of “Ex Magazzini Generali”. Nowadays these areas are characterized by eplty buildings and abandoned spaces. My purpose was to create a new residential area connected to the transport system and the commercial area through pedestrian walkways. In this way the pedestrian flow is separated from the cars one and it makes the area safer. The abandoned buildings are going to be transformed in the new university campus surrounded by a park and walking areas.
