The Manser Practice was approached to design a 100 bedroom residential spa with 75 treatment rooms, a pool, restaurant, bar and ancillary facilities in the setting of mature listed landscaped park.

The new buildings are modern, simple and restrained, forming a series of courtyards that create outside ‘rooms’ that link the interior to the existing gardens. Two white rendered bedroom blocks, referencing the original white rendered house on the site, were joined at their eastern end by a dark timber clad spa building buried into the slope of the site.

The project took ten years from inception through planning, recession and construction to completion, with a traditional contract used. The use of simple forms and detailing has produced a building that sits comfortably in its setting, is easy to use and from which there are a series of near and medium distance views to the surrounding landscape.
