Residential Center for Elderly over 65 | DUO.01 - Italian Architects & Designer Studio

Winner of a design competition, for the construction of a residential center for elderly over 65 years The building, designed in wood with X-LAM. Class A +, "green building" is on two floors and assumes the construction of 14 apartments to accommodate elderly dependents over 65 . The architectural design chosen is very "rational", defined lines and clean. The building must be "recognizable" and at the same time have a total integration with the surrounding landscape. Designed with a wood frame, spot color characterize some volumes both external and internal, while the rest of the complex is covered with white plaster, but leaving some walls with wooden beams. The color has the purpose of immediately identify some areas of the complex and make it more aesthetically dynamic. The building will serve as a background to a green area with benches and walkways lit, and the great cedar of Lebanon present in the area, will be the centerpiece to the entire project. The  exterior corridors have not only the f distribution function but also is designed to give to the people a space to socialize. The large glass walls will work as solar greenhouses, optimizing and protecting the welfare of the internal energy corridors from the elements. In addition to the 14 apartments will be provided for common areas and services such as, dirt collection, medical room, common services for staff and technical rooms. All spaces have been designed to be exploited to the full and unimpeded by people dependent on a wheelchair, in order to allow everyone to be able to self-manage with the utmost freedom and independence. The complex has been designed as a totally wooden structure, adopting criteria and design choices to classify the energy efficiency of the building class A +.
