Municipal Offices | KAAN Architecten
Breda / Netherlands / 2003
The office is part of the development of the Chassé Terrain master plan in Breda. The programme – office spaces – and the envelope – a beam hovering above a logistic area – were already given.
The building shows itself as a figurant on the background of the other buildings. It gains the desired visibility by horizontally developing its shape and crossing the underground car park to become a roof for its entrance. The South façade consists of alternating strips of steel and glass. The North façade has large windows which become slightly smaller per storey as a response to light incidence.
The building is a black box on a light and open base. Matt glass volumes beneath the building light up at night.
