pendant lighting installation London / United Kingdom / 2014

A 1950’s residence undergoing a major architectural transformation, created a large imposing entrance hall. The client’s ambition was to retain the striking angularity of this crisp, contemporary interior whilst introducing an elegant lighting installation that created softer, more sensual lines of sight.

We introduced sinuous organic forms that very gently, almost imperceptibly, move and ‘murmur’ within the space. The suspension system specially developed for this piece provides strong but delicate lines. Hand formed borosilicate glass vessels are independently suspended on high tensile stainless steel cables over a drop of 4 meters. The experience created is almost akin to walking into a forest clearing and looking up to see dappled qualities of light shifting in the breeze. Each flute vessel is totally unique; very small glass fragments are ‘scattered’ inside the vessels to create varying degrees of luminosity and an elegant sparkle, an inimitable quality that has been specifically developed by fyrbox.
