Urban Aegean

Escapefromsofa’s latest project is the modern and chic apartment at Bodrum Gundogan; with its impressive seascape and carefully chosen colors which seamlessly blends with the surrounding instead obscuring the natural views, is designed as a warm Urban Aegean house where can be enjoyed both winters and summers.

Nowadays when Bodrum comes to mind, we just don’t think about the beautiful little village houses where pink and purple bougainvilleas are hanging of their walls; instead we think of very chic and urban Aegean houses where we can get away from city’s crowded life.  A very good example for this is the Escapefromsofa’s project at Gundogan Cove where the team started working on in May and it took them only 3 months to transform the raw construction into very chic and comfortable living area.

With its 40 sqmeter garden and 240 sqmeter living area, the house also consist of an open kitchen merging with the living-room, 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms in the house. The project, which was intended for both summer and winter use, was decorated with the furniture designed completely by the Escapefromsofa team. The only expectation from the owner was a living space where they would feel at peace and happy with hassle free living.

From choice of the marble floor to the landscaping, from the design of the furniture to the choice of the objects, which belongs to escapefromsofa, was finalized in a very short matter of time.

While designing a comfortable and chic living environment, team’s main purpose was also to keep the Bodrum’s tranquil atmosphere and the natural beauty within the house, therefore the house is mostly influenced by white and pastel colors. Except the accessories, all the design elements were carefully and delicately built by escapesfromsofa’s workshop at Istanbul. While using wood, brass and marble through out the living area of the house, main goal was to match up high-quality material with modern design elements and warmth of the wood. www.escapefromsofa.com

LIVINGROOM

Due to the high quality material choices such as brass, wood and marble, livingroom has a very elegant, chic look and the influence of the white and pastel colors further contribute to the tranquil atmosphere.

Marble pavements were chosen from Bodrum’s local marble quarry and the craftmenship was carried by the local builders.

Main drive to design a wall-to-wall library was due to the owners’ special interest into reading. Brass construction, wood and marble was used together for the library in order to have the look of an elegant, classy library which is waiting to be filled with the books chosen by the owner instead of a big chunky library blocking the beautiful open space. Marcel Breuer’s iconic design chairs were chosen for the reading corner. All the accessories in the livingroom were chosen from Crate and Barrel, Hiref and Taş Design.

The painting above the wood console has the signature of Aylin Yavuz who currently resides in Berlin.

KITCHEN

While replacing all the materials in the kitchen, team kept the open kitchen style. The marble island kitchen has a very practical use during the daily life and table made from Bianco Carrara marble is surrounded by escapefromsofas’ “Short” chairs. The only classical design through out the house are the chairs upholstered with nubuck.

ENTERANCE

Perfore cnc cut leaf shaped panels were fixed to the wall to cover the windows of the guest bedroom with a special chic design.

MASTER BEDROOM

Alongside with the chic design; team’s consideration for the comfort and the functionality helped them to separate the backside of the bed with a wall in order to have a separate make up section. Also a passage from the closet area to the bathroom was made possible. Lighting fixtures were chosen from Ironi.

BEDROOM

Escapefromsofa especially designed single piece walnut headboard to be able to transfer the warmth of the wood to the modern design. Ceiling lighting fixture is from Ironi and the bedside lamp was chosen from Hamm.

YELLOW BEDROOM

In all the bedrooms, details such as makeup table and the mirrors are taken into account and ease of use was the primary concern. Such as the other bedrooms, ceiling lighting fixture is from Ironi and the bedside lamp was chosen from Hamm.

SINGLE PERSON BEDROOM

Solid headboard was chosen in the single person bedroom. Old English bus labels were framed and hung on top of the headboard. Again ceiling lighting fixture is from Ironi and the bedside lamp was chosen from Hamm.

TERRACE & GARDEN

Pavement was redone at the terrace as it was through out the apartment. Team also designed the terrace furniture and the landscaping in line with the design language of the whole house by creating beautiful outer space. Pastel colors used with the garden furniture carries Bodrum’s natural tranquility inside the house and also down is used for maximum comfort. Designed as a leaf shaped metal PERFORE panels situated on the natural stone walls at the balcony, gives a tropical sensation.

By using neolith marble textured material with the dining table and the coffee tables at the terrace, team managed to design  very durable and long lasting furniture.

“Suitable to Bodrum’s atmosphere; we have designed a house with serenity of the summer…

Our goal was to have the owners and their guests to feel chic, exquisite and comfortable once they step in side house”

“ Without compromising from Bodrum’s nature and its’ beauty, we cared to create a very modern urban house which could be enjoyed both summers and winters”

“ We completed the house with simple and elegant architecture in mind and preferred to leave it that way. We believe owners should shape the certain aspects of the house with their experiences and with their individual preferences by spending time in the house “
