nature turned into a modular system | hollegha arquitectos
organic structures are the main inspiration for a biofuel station designed for a local company in 2007 Madrid / Spain / 2007
The project is a prototype study for a biofuel filling station the architects were assigned with by a local company in 2007.
It was a priority to find an appearance that would clearly distinguish the brand from conventional petrol companies and be easily recognizable, as a starting point for the whole corporate design.
A basic element was created that would be used in a modular way to protect the area of the fuel pumps. Its design is based on the structure of a leaf, the perfect example of a highly resistant while very light structure, with only one support and a big cantilevered surface.
Also, the leaf is an appropriate symbol for the product: a fuel that is generated from organic lipids.
Only two different modules are designed to be combined varying in height and position to each other. This way, an infinite number of combinations can be created and maximum adaptability for different situations is given.
The result is the abstract image of a bunch of leafs, leaving aside any romanticism: a vivid and highly functional set of lacquered steel elements. The service block, provided with an office, restrooms and a little shop, is a very simple, metal sheet covered box.
The colors that were chosen are also inspired by the organic origin of the product: yellowish green tones reminding rapeseed and corn fields...
