A VIEWPOINT FOR THE PLACE
A PUBLIC SPACE POR THE CITY
A NATIONAL MUSEUM FOR PERU

Revealing the place
The location where the National Museum will be built combines a beautiful and natural landscape, characteristic from the desert coast of Peru, with an immense archaeological area where the magnificent Pachacamac sanctuary is found. The proposal seek to reveal and appreciate the surrounding natural and cultural landscape.

A public space
The “open arms” arrangement of the exhibition rooms main volume creates a large open inner area, an open court/square that points to the slope of the desert topography. The court/square is an entrance and meeting room, a place where artistic, cultural and folkloric events will take place.

Architecture: weightless – notweightless
It is intended for the museum central program (which are the exhibition rooms) to make an elongated volume in “L” shape, a permeable volume in its exterior, that a part of it is suspended and the other part is supported. The other container volumes of the remaining program are like masses that are anchored to the ground making visually an amplified sensation thanks to the slope of its walls.

A cultural and architectonic experience
The proposal looks for an ample and varied experience for the visitor. It combines roofed areas with outdoor areas, with different scales and heights. It also looks for a discovering and learning experience of our cultural past and also of our natural landscape and living culture. The museum is more than a museum.
