The challenge proposed by this competition is to define the contemporary interpretation of a modern cultural centre. The current philosophy is orientated on the cultural ‘serendipity’ concept, which involves a mix of learning/entertainment/production activities. The result is an overlapping of producers and consumers concepts, which require not only a strong necessity of customization and flexibility of the use, time and spaces, but also the need of a high technological system that provides for the user unprecedented speed and quality of information. This means that the cultural centre, rather of being a simple item’s contenitor, becomes a place where dynamic communities can product, exhibit and enjoy the culture.
This project develops the main activities following the trinomial entertainment, work and education. The aim is to offer a new form of cultural path where the user is considered more than an ordinary consumer, in other words a part of the creation process, and therefore producer itself (‘prosumer’). In this perspective, all the activities get mixed up within a unique box.
Moreover, the public cultural centre profile of the twenty-first century has to reflect the needs and the essence of today’s society. It must be more than a multi-platform: a distributed network, involved in social and environment issues, promoter of business cooperation and development, spreading and training local development abroad as well as active online. Therefore, the appearance of the “social” aspect is integrated into the system, either as accessibility to the world of social media, or through an approach to its fruition; never purely contemplative and passive, but dynamic and interactive.
