Our single story extension and renovation of the existing house replaced an out-dated shabby and poorly constructed two-storey extension, which blocked out much of the south light to the existing courtyard garden.
Our intervention was conceived as a single storey narrow longroom, glazed on two sides and running along the North wall forming one side of an existing walled garden. The Fineline Aluminium sliding glass connects the family room to the garden and defuses the boundary between inside and outside.

The design of the building was adjusted and refined to take full advantage of the sweeping views aspect and garden, whilst also providing privacy from the road. The building is clad in sustainable cedar and render.
Orchard hill is a distinctive yet private and quiet addition to the island of Guernsey; it has fulfilled the client brief, responded to its context, and is a truly unique extension to the rear of the existing family home.
