Here the site is dominated by an impressive landscape.

The house was conceived as lying on a platform that ran on to where the land blended with the sky.

First impressions on visiting the site were of gently sloping ground and how to include this in the final design. This involved “stealing” bites of the surrounding view and engaging them with the structure, like parts of a painting, which would create feelings of constant delight and surprise.

Lying on a northwest axis, the house shifts through various phases of mood, of light and dark as the sun moves across throughout the day.
