AQUEDUCT.

The Poetry of Water

THE NEW HISTORIC SENSE OF WATER

The aqueduct was a roman symbol of civilization and progress. The Romans constructed numerous aqueducts to bring water from distant sources in their cities, supplying thermae, lavatories, fountains and private homes. The wastewater were eliminated with complex sewer system and released into nearby bodies of water, keeping the city clean and free of manure.

AQUEDUCT the aqueduct is the formal and functional reinterpretation of the Roman aqueduct, and the enhancement of Water as: WELLNESS, LIFE ENERGY and for the community.

MACHINE-BUILDING

The complex is designed as a building-machine capable of distributing water, produce energy (sustainability), purify it for the welfare of the people (spa, swimming pools, evaporative cooling) and for the health of the environment.

The water used in the building for the community, and returned to the basin of the EUR purified belongs to a logical redevelopment of the buildings and surrounding landscape.

Characteristic element of the complex is the public terrace suspended 40 meters above the ground on stilts that integrate structural function with the water transport system. This element holds together the various functional blocks of the complex giving it a unitary character.
Blocks of service link the two public spaces: the covered square and the terrace. This provides citizens with green spaces for relaxing, stunning views and swimming pools in the winter months turn into skating rinks.

ETFE. INVOLVE SYSTEM

Every existing building is surrounded by a casing ETFE, self-cleaning, easily recyclable and extremely durable. The water resistance is also fundamental characteristic as a function of the presence of the steam that escapes from the columns in the warm months for the evaporative cooling. It also ensures a greater spread of light, a greater penetration of heat, and a high thermal insulation, providing about 30% of annual energy savings.

WATER

Water as well-being, energy, and life for the redevelopment of the entire area is at the base of the machine-building operation.
The water treatment system involves extracting from the arti
ficial lake of the EUR and a first purification process.
At this point the water is transported within the stilts (duct inside structure) and supplies the pool terrace. In warm months, ducts with the presence of pressurized nozzles emit water vapor state thus exploiting the phenomenon of evaporative cooling.
From swimming pools, about 40 meters high, the water is poured down through other stilts thus producing energy and then re-purified before being poured into the lake Eur.

SOLID. LIQUID. GASEOUS

The treatment system is characterized by the use of water in its three physical states: solid, liquid and gaseous.
The water used for pools of the public terrace for the welfare of the users is iced (SOLID) in the cold months when the tanks become ice rinks for the public.
The third state, the STEAM aimed at the welfare hygrothermal is realized in the warm months when it is implemented in a process of evaporative cooling.
