When unifying and restoring this ground and first floor, the clients main wish was to get as much light as possible. They also asked us to do something special with their book collection, which was notably sorted by color.

To achieve the maximum amount of light inside, we removed the central part of the upper floor completely. To some degree we adapted the existing interior elements to provide the zone with a rhythmic structure. The void is part of this articulation, creating a 3-dimensional chess pattern.

We placed a bookcase in this two-story high space. The bookshelves protrude at the back and constitute the stairs. On the first floor the bookcase creates the connection between the front and the back area.
