Area of ​​the former textile factory “Slovenka” became after demolition of almost all of the original buildings brownfield, situated close to the historic center of Banska Bystrica. Currently, the town council discussed various development projects generating proposals of the glamorous entertainment-multipurpose shoping centers, ruthlessly destroying the last remnants of the industrial complex of factories, which is from the 60s an essential part of this site. Therefore, we as native inhabitants from Banská Bytrica, tried to find for this place meaningful use, maintain at least what little of the original face “Slovenka” remained so to restore the site and its surroundings genius loci, which are so much missing. Banska Bystrica as a center of education suffers from a lack of accommodations for students. By revitalizing this brownfield, we are changing abandoned spaces to the center of student life.The simple accommodation units for the students and common areas and services for the public creates the connections between the native inhabitants and the young people.

We put the modular student housing cells as energy and functionally separate units into the original concrete skeleton. We benefit from the variability of the modul structures of this type of the buildings,so functions can be flexibly adapted to the respective needs in the future. The entrances to the cells take a place on the gallery communications. Centered located atrium that links shared terrace, supporting community life of all the students. Characteristic design module objects is also reflected in the expression of public spaces in the form of concrete tiles, green elements and features wooden terraces with rest areas and elevated stages. Thanks  to using a simple modular concept, reusing existing structures,using the prefabricated production of residential containers and using recyclable materials this building becames economically efficient and friendly to the environment.

Areál bývalej textilnej továrne Slovenka sa stal po zbúraní takmer všetkých pôvodných objektov brownfieldom, situovaným v tesnej blízkosti historického centra mesta Banská Bystrica. V súčasnosti sú na mestskom úrade prejednávané rôzne developerské projekty prinášajúce nablýskané návrhy zábavných-polyfunkčných shoping centier, bezohladne ničiace posledné zvyšky industriálneho komplexu továrne, ktorý je od 60. rokov minulého storočia neodmyslitelnou súčasťou tejto lokality. Preto sme sa ako rodení Bystričania pokúsili nájsť miestu zmysluplnejšie využitie, udržať aspoň to málo, čo z tváre pôvodnej Slovenky zostalo a tak navrátiť lokalite aj jej blízkemu okoliu genia loci, ktorý tu tak výrazne chýba. Banská Bystrica ako centrum školstva stredného Slovenska trpí nedostatkom ubytovacích kapacít pre študentov. Revitalizovaný brownfield, ktorý sa nachádza v tesnej blízkosti prakticky všetkých fakúlt a stredných škôl mesta preto meníme na centrum študentského života s jednoduchými ubytovacími jednotkami, spoločnými priestormi a službami pre verejnosť spájúcimi domáce obyvateľstvo s mladými ľudmi.

Do pôvodného železobetónového skeletu vkladáme modulové bunky študentského bývania ako energeticky aj funkčne samostatné jednotky. Ťažíme z variability baťovských stavieb, štruktúra ako aj funkcia sa v budúcnosti môže flexibilne prispôsobiť daným potrebám. Vstupy do buniek sa nachádzajú na pavlačovej komunikácií átria, ktorá je prepojená spoločnými terasami, podporujúcimi komunitný život študentov. Charakteristický konštrukčný modul objektov sa odráža aj vo výraze verejných priestorov formou striedania betonových dlaždíc, prvkov zelene a drevených terás s funkciou oddychových plôch a vyvýšených pódií. Vďaka jednoduchému modulovému konceptu, znovuvyužitiu existujúcej nosnej konštrukcie, pefabrikovanej výrobe obytných kontajnerov a použitiu recyklovateľných materiálov by bola realizácia návrhu rýchla, ekonomicky úsporná a šetrná voči okoliu stavby.
