Palazzo Gorgoni is situated in the town of Galatina right in the heart of The Salento peninsula. It sleeps 16 in eight bedrooms, all en-suite. This property is perfect for groups looking to stay in luxurious surroundings complete with contemporary art and furniture. This Palazzo, originally constructed in 1780, has undergone extensive restoration and conversion in recent years to bring it to a very high standard of accommodation. The Palazzo has the convenience of a town centre position with the benefit of a roof-terrace with sun loungers, as well as a pool set in one of the courtyards.

The current owner, Tiziana Serrani, arranged the renovation of the palazzo to its current state. Palazzo Gorgoni had been divided by its previous owners into 12 apartments/offices for private individuals. Most of the original stone floor was ruined when the division was made and it has been impossible to restore it. However, whatever could be recuperated was reused to pave the storerooms.

The reconstruction took two years of work but before that it took three years for the owners to study the original architecture to understand how to retrieve and separate spaces, obtain local authority permissions, work out how they wanted to use the space, find craftsmen and choose materials.
The renovations themselves entailed first of all design. Following this, any additions that had been made were demolished and excavations over 60cm were made for damp-proofing. Finally, original materials/features were recuperated, the flooring done and then the rest of the work.
In the process of renovating a staircase that was not known to exist was found connecting the ‘Africa’ room with the ‘relaxation’ room, and also an underground water tank.
