Lomocubes | MPA - Motta Papiani Architetti

Lomocubes is a luxurious and high profile condominium that overlooks the Lugano lakeshores. It is a groundbreaking architectural project that marks a new frontier in residential building construction.
Finished in July 2013, Lomocubes synthesizes the best relationship between interior and exterior spaces, giving from the living room of each unit a wonderful view on the lake.
A texture-in-motion built with a rigorous and wise use of materials leads to a seductive aesthetic result established on the succession between full and empty spaces, transparence and opacity.

It was designed by the MPA Architetti Studio, Giuseppina Motta, Luca Papiani, and commissioned by the Swiss entrepreneur Alessandro Lo Monaco (with whom the studio has previously collaborated on the requalification projects of ex industrial areas in Milano). Lomocubes is located in a strategic position between the Lugano and the Massagno districts, and it is reserved to a careful, demanding and selected clientele in quest of a place that combines leading-edge architecture with a sophisticated environment. As a result a series of glass cubes irradiated by light create unexpected perspectives into a rigorous structural link.

In order to establish a new perspective axis, MPA Architetti has decided to place the stairs and the entries to the units on the back of the complex. The resulting dramatic corridors oriented towards the living areas frame ecstatic panoramas onto the lake. The result is emphasized on the façade by the bow windows: transparent glass cubes thrusting through empty space and able to synthesize the relationship between the viewer and its beautiful surroundings with an open view of 270°. The back of the building, endowed of a second entrance, is characterized by a metal structure and wooden panels, with staves that screen the loggias of the master bedrooms that overlook on a lush internal garden with pool. The attic is conceived as a private villa, complete of all refined specifics and details, from the furniture to the bespoke handles and the exclusive glass pool projecting for 3 meters into empty space.

The building includes all the possible comforts including a wide garden with outdoor pool, an exclusive spa and a gym. The hall has been thought as an expository area suitable for art events and shows, with movable panels and a contemporary fresco by the artist Ozmo.

Both for the outdoors and the indoors, the chosen materials are the most refined: the natural travertine used for the coverings, the wide pavements of the external, internal common areas and the stairs; the natural oak used for the brise soleil, for the doors and windows, part of the internal pavements, the doors and furniture; the crystal used for the wide views and also the bronzed copper that covers the structural link of the building divides the front in cubes and it accentuates the clean lines of the building design.

Lomocubes is a project centered on light and geometry: a new way of living which is functional, creative and endowed with beauty all around.

Lomocubes è un nuovo condomino di lusso che si affaccia sulle rive del lago di Lugano, un progetto innovativo dal punto di vista architettonico che segna una nuova frontiera nell’edilizia residenziale.
Terminato nel luglio del 2013, Lomocubes intende stabilire un punto di vista privilegiato sul rapporto tra interno ed esterno consentendo, dalla zona giorno di ogni unità abitativa, una splendida veduta sul lago. Una estetica fondata sull’alternanza tra pieni e vuoti, tra trasparenze e opacità, una texture in movimento costruita con un rigoroso e sapiente uso di materiali e seducenti prospettive.

Realizzato dallo studio di architettura MPA Architetti, Giuseppina Motta e Luca Papiani, e commissionato dall’imprenditore Alessandro Lo Monaco (con cui lo studio ha in passato condiviso progetti di riqualificazione di ex aree industriali a Milano), Lomocubes è situato in una posizione privilegiata, tra i comuni di Lugano e Massagno, e dedicato a una clientela attenta, esigente e selezionata, alla ricerca di un luogo in grado di coniugare l’architettura contemporanea con un ambiente raffinato. Una serie di cubi attraversati dalla luce creano scorci inaspettati all'interno di una maglia strutturale rigorosa e precisa, che scandisce le ampie e panoramiche cellule abitative.

Per realizzare un nuovo asse prospettico, MPA Architetti ha scelto di posizionare i corpi scala e gli accessi alle unità sul retro del complesso, lunghi corridoi orientati verso l'esterno - disegnano prospettive verso il lago. Questa proiezione è sottolineata nella facciata principale dai bow window, cubi aggettanti completamente trasparenti pensati come spazi sospesi nel vuoto capaci di estremizzare il rapporto dell’edificio con il paesaggio, aprendosi a una vista a 180°. Il retro dell'edificio, dotato di un secondo accesso, è caratterizzato da una struttura in ferro e da pannelli di legno a doghe che schermano i loggiati della zona notte affacciati su un verdeggiante giardino interno. L’attico è pensato come una villa privata, completo di tutti i particolari più raffinati, dagli arredi alle maniglie realizzate ad hoc e una piscina esclusiva aggettante per 3m, tanto da sembrare essa stessa uno dei bow window che punteggiano la facciata.

L’edificio comprende ogni possibile confort: oltre all’ampio giardino, completano la struttura una SPA e una palestra, mentre la hall d’ingresso è stata immaginata come uno spazio espositivo disponibile per eventi legati all’arte, e presenta su pannelli mobili un’affresco contemporaneo dell'artista Ozmo.

Sia per l’esterno che per gli interni i materiali utilizzati sono fra i più pregiati: il travertino naturale - impiegato per i rivestimenti, le ampie pavimentazioni delle zone comuni interne ed esterne e le scale; il rovere naturale – per i brise soleil, i serramenti, parte delle pavimentazioni interne, le porte e gli arredi; il cristallo - per gli ampi affacci - e infine il rame brunito che, ricoprendo la maglia strutturale dell’edificio, suddivide il prospetto in riquadri e ne evidenzia le linee.

Lomocubes è un progetto incentrato sulla luce e sulla geometria: un nuovo modo di abitare razionale e creativo che esalta il paesaggio circostante.
