The sports complex designed by LIAG is set to make an ongoing contribution to quality of life in the Strijp area of Eindhoven. The attractive appearance created by the multicolouredness and playfulness of the design makes the building both distinctive and inviting. The sports complex is integrated in the site by being partly enclosed in a cosy green hill. This gives the building a human scale with a high cuddle factor.

The entire building has a single main entrance. The structure of the complex consists of long horizontal bands that culminate in rounded edges. To help the different groups of users maintain their own distinct identity, the bands around the parts of the building used by the different groups are in their own colours. The main shape of the building is created by a flowing continuous line with curved edges. The extended roof overhang makes it possible for there to be a great deal of transparency in the external wall while also ensuring that there is no direct penetration of daylight into the sports hall situated in the middle of the building.

Renewable energy

The sports park is cutting edge in its use of renewable energy. The use of solar power, solar heat and thermal energy storage in the ground ensures that a large portion of the energy used not only by the sports park but also by the adjacent Christiaan Huygens College school is sustainably generated. As a result, the complex has a GPR rating of > 8.

Multifunctional sports hall for a range of users

The multifunctional sports hall is equipped with modern sports facilities. The sports park is managed and run by Sportbedrijf De Karpen, which is part of the municipality of Eindhoven. RKVV Brabantia Football Club and CKV Rust Roest Korfball Club have set up their canteens in this multifunctional complex and the Korein childcare organisation provides extracurricular childcare in the same complex. With Christiaan Huygens College being the main user of the sports hall, the approximately 4,500 m2 complex is now playing a pivotal social function in this part of Eindhoven.
