The adjacent garden in front of Palazzo Juan Pizarro de Aragón had been vacant for years, witness of the degradation and isolation from the surrounding urban context. This critical situation drives the Municipality of Trujillo to publish a competition for the redevelopment and the integration of this green area with the urban background.
The project is respectful of the pre-existent elements, using a common language, such as the symmetrical disposition between the plan and the elevation and the use of the typical and local autochthon vegetation.
A wide and comfortable central staircase, framed by pre-existent old palm tree, welcomes the visitor approaching to the piazza and enhances the South loggia of the Palace Juan Pizarro de Aragón. The randomly-disposed benches are aimed to interrupt the regular rhythm of the staircase and its monumentally aspect in one hand, but in the other hand they can be quickly removed in case of an hypothetical new way of access for the Palace
The contrast produces by random disposition of a static element like the benches, which are composed by the modular repetition of one wrought-iron element, introduced inside the dynamism of the staircase, gives to the basement of the Palace the dichotomy dynamism/statics in continuous transformation.
