The project starts with the analysis of the energetic system of Sardinia, so as to highlight negative aspects of non renewable energy and to make that system more eco-friendly; the main purpose is to requalificate and reclamate the land of one of the electrical/petrolchemical factories located in the island, in order to give it new functions and also new spatial and environmental quality, and to make it a prime example for the recovery of all obsolete industrial sites and their ecological rebirth. Now most of sardinian energy requirement is satisfied by four thermo-power plants; however, this production model is going through a period of crisis, due mostly to depletion and cost of non renewable sources, as well as to the environmental and architectonic consequences of obsolete and non reusable plants.
For all these reasons, the project aims to a gradual closure of the existing power plants and to a recovery of their surrounding areas, in order to make them reusable for new activities. After the choice of the location (the fuel oil factory nearby Ottana, a village located in a central position of the regional territory and rather well connected by the street network and the tranportations system) and a detailed territorial analysis, the most pertinent projectual choice seemed to be the creation of a biomass park, in order to permit adaptive reuse of the existing buildings, workplaces preservation and polluted lands reclamation.
The result is a new model of landscape which is able to combine energy production with respect for nature.

The microdesign projects then, develop the biomass park masterplan, in order to examine in depth the architectural interventions and the secondary landscape proposals; the many different actions change for each different landscape identified in the territory.
The river’s area main actions are reforestation and fitoremediation, that permit to degradate contaminants in surface water and groundwater; the agricultural park, completely accessible to the public, is designed for medium-sized plantations, used both for energy and food production, according to a rotation system thanks to which every parcel change with time; the only fix elements are greenways. The former power plant is redesigned to respond to all the needs of the new biomass plant.
In the linear park there are three big clearings characterized by energetic platforms, whereunder there are three multifunctional center which are energetically independent thanks to the energy produced by solar panels placed on the roofs.
The first architectural project is localized in a very good position, the entrance to the park. From here visitors can venture into the park, through the pedestrian and cycle paths, and reach the first big clearing: beneath of it there is the new research and technological innovation hub for Sardinia, which permit to improve energetic species and contribute to make the island energetically independent.
The second project aims to give back to the town its industrial area, creating a new arts and crafts headquarters, which is composed of three building typologies : warehouses, showrooms and refreshment stands: it is based on the concepts of flexibility and functionality.
