The rehabilitation of the old market is based on reinforcing the existing brick structure in order to preserve the buiding and on changing the interior space so to organize a new program for the new “Urban Center” and the new “Ferrara Architecture Association”.
The “Clock tower” changes completely its function. Because of its small dimensions it is not used as a new space but as a huge “urban periscope”, a mirror tool that allow people to watch from the lower level the all city as from an aerial view.
At the ground level the main room is designed as a flexible space where is possible to organize exhibitions or conference thanks to its movable furniture. Those are technicals solutions such as foldable panels and a telescopic saddles that create a dynamic space suitable for different uses.
At the upper level is designed the Ferrara Architecture Association with a small library and various offices. For the meeting rooms are are thought as an extension made up of two metal corten volumes that come out from the old brick facade.
The all building is brought back to its original material and the abandoned old market is restored giving life to a new function open to the city.
