A vertical thought. A vertical city in which the water used will serve to making fertile 25 square kilometres of desert, making it live by precious trees, capable in their turn to provide oxygen to the fortunate habitants, binding in an indissoluble and reciprocal may their destiny on this planet. A building that is not to be constructed, but that grows following constructive techniques never supposed until now, capacious to rise and unfold itself section by section as a very logical flower, a magnificent machine of refined engineering drawn on all fields of human knowledge rather than on traditional civil engineering. Because all the things we are talking about do already exist, they are commonly produced and applied in transport engineering, in aeronautical and automobile industry, in the factories, while we architects persist in using usual material, the brick (whose invention goes back up to three thousand years ago), the concrete and the mortar. A building that at the end of its economical cycle may be dismantled according to a project studied from the first moment, with certified modalities that allow a complete re-use of all employed components. A new frontier for the engineering specifications. Contextually with the building project there will be the project for the entire and sustainable maintenance, the demonstration of the updating routine of both the distributive layouts and the finishes of the installation as well as of the structural sections. And besides the demonstration that it can stand upright, the certification that it may nourish itself drawing on the sun, the wind, the rain, on its habitant’s use, and that all that has been used in the construction may be returned, in the form of reusable raw materials, to future generations. A city that will redeem us architects, as town planners, from the criminal sin of having designed the endless outskirts of the world where a woeful humanity is wandering bewildered under a sky pregnant with poisoned air, where buildings sum to other buildings and the streets and walls total up to a chessboard that may be endlessly repeated, without continuity solutions, no way out, without expectancies for the persons that live, work, get lost, and lead their life there.
