The new interiors for the Dutch coffee chain Coffeecompany are part of an overall rebranding exercise, executed by a team of creatives of different disciplines: The Garnison Group. Jeroen Vester, creative director of ninetynine is responsible for the interiors. Coffeecompany moved a large segment of its brand activities to a warehouse in the Zeeburg district in Amsterdam, next to the mill that accommodates the popular ‘Brouwerij het IJ’ beer brewery. At the new location Coffeecompany roasts all its single origin coffees and special espresso blends, and consequently supplies them from the roastary to all 30 locations. In addition to production, it features a tasting room to introduce visitors to new coffees and special brewing methods. A zone of wooden segments in the shape of houses divides the tasting room from the roasting area. Functionality is key in the roasting part of the building. The warehouse has been kept intact as much as possible. The coffee roaster is positioned centrally allowing the staff to freely work around it. Bags of green coffees are stored on pallets in the back of the roastary, while the fresh roast is stored in white buckets in the steel shelves along one side. Stainless steel workbenches along the other wall accommodate the training equipment. A steel circular staircase along the left wall offers access to the offices on the second floor. The tasting room in front contains all features of a regular coffeecompany: coffee counters, loose tables, lounge seating and the inevitable communal table. In accordance with the new interior concept for the other locations, there are various separate counters: a register counter, which also includes the food range, a brew bar with uberboiler and drip tray that seats four, and a counter for the de La Marzocco espresso machine. Each counter stands on a concrete base, with the tops varying for the different use: the register counter top is made of natural oak, the brew bar of natural oak with stainless steel details and the espresso counter top is made out of white tiles. A zone of wooden segments in the shape of houses divides the tasting room from the roasting area.
