The buidling forms a new eastern edge to the campus, completing the quadrangle. Following well established principles of conservation design, the new East Wing boarding house has been designed to be clearly contemporary in construction detail, but contextual in material, massing and form. Red brick cladding is provided to the southern and eastern street frontages, and flint cladding to the northern and western facades facing the quadrangle, following the clear hierarchy and palette of materials used in the existing building elevations at Brighton College. Linking both cladding materials in the manner of the terracotta, the scale and proportion of finely detailed aluminium window reveals matches the colour and the window mullion module of the terracotta surrounds used across most of the facades around the quadrangle.
