The architectural concept is focused on the heritage of the brand and is sympathetic to the original features and tone of the building. MoreySmith has stripped back the impressive 60,000ft space for a complete redesign of the space across 5 levels, including a mezzanine, loft and expansive rooftop garden. Some of the features are fascinating including a commission from Stuart Haygarth created from 30,000 acrylic ice chunks; the best of British Craftsmanship and artistry has been used throughout the space. Coca-Cola is relocating from Hammersmith where they have been located for 15 years · MoreySmith is the architectural, interior designers and lead consultant · The building sees 60,000sq ft stripped back to a shell with a core redesign of interior space · No. 1 Wimpole Street – an example of Edwardian baroque architecture, completed in 1912 by architect, John Belcher, as the home of Royal Society of Medicine · MoreySmith has designed the space around the celebration of Coca-Cola’s long heritage combined with the brand’s ability to diversify and move with the times · The brief has been to create a new working environment bespoke to Coca-Cola’s working culture · An LED screen is made up of 5,000 recycled Coca-Cola bottles and forms part of the feature wall designed in collaboration with Acrylicize · The 5 floor workspace will be home to its 350 employees and will see a reception, café, coffee bar, touchdown hub, open plan workspace and meeting suite · MoreySmith’s designs have been sympathetic to the buildings features and heritage. The front of the building dates back to 1912 but there is a huge extension at the back of the building that was built in the 1980’s – MoreySmith has worked hard to ensure that both contrasting spaces are fluid in their design to ensure that there is a link between heritage and contemporary · The arrival experience at reception (expansive feature wall) sets the tone for the rest of the building. It is immediately evident that the band has vast heritage and stability that it is proud of, bringing to life the energy, fun and happiness of the organisation’s culture · The journey moves vertically through the building, creating an environment for team happiness with happy and comfortable spaces for staff and visitors to meet, collaborate and socialise · Because of the ‘new’ and ‘old’ parts of the building, there are unusual and quirky levels which MoreySmith has maximised, creating playful staircases that connect the front part of the building to the main office space The Coca-Cola Company has moved into its new London headquarters in Wimpole Street, London W1. The new office will house around 300 Coca-Cola employees from across Europe and will replace the company’s previous offices in Hammersmith, W6. The brand’s new London base is a 1920s purpose built office block which has been refitted throughout. It is set over four floors, covering 66,000 square feet and features a roof terrace, café, meeting rooms, open plan office space and hot desk facilities. The interior of the building is a celebration of the company’s heritage and place in popular culture. A staircase runs through the centre of the building with a backdrop showcasing the company’s heritage, featuring iconic Coca-Cola memorabilia with designs and advertising from the archives. At the heart of the building, hanging from the second floor into the reception, is a specially commissioned piece of art by award-winning British designer Stuart Haygarth. The four metre high comet shaped art-work features over 30,000 acrylic ice chunks, suspended on ultra-fine wires and illuminated by LEDs. Sarah Hutton, Human Resources Director, The Coca-Cola Company said: “The new office creates an inspiring and motivating place to work which celebrates the heritage of The Coca-Cola Company and reflects the values and culture of our brand. We’re looking forward to moving into the heart of the West End and being even closer to many of our key partners and agencies.” Linda Morey Smith, Principal Director, MoreySmith comments: “We are thrilled to have designed Coca-Cola’s new UK headquarters. Using the brand’s iconic history, we have created a space which also draws upon the vibrant energy of the organisation. The result is an environment for team happiness with uplifting and comfortable spaces for staff and visitors to work, meet, collaborate and socialise.” Sustainability has been at the heart of the refit programme with the building achieving the SKA Gold rating in recognition of the work to fit out the building sustainably. The building also includes features such as extensive LED lighting throughout and Photovoltaic (PV) cells on the roof to generate electricity for the building. Key partners involved in the project include: Project Managers and Workplace strategy - CBRE Architecture & Interior Design – MoreySmith Mechanical and Electrical Engineers – Medland Metropolis Quantity Surveyors – Core Five Contractor – BW interiors Structural Engineers – Price and Myers Art installation – Stuart Haygarth Coca-Cola feature wall – Acrylicize
