In contrast with the land-take process, the goal of the project is to re-design the huge space under the highway of Livorno Harbour, actually forgotten and unconsidered by urban processes. The computational approach is conceived as experimental algorithmic method to manage and relate different phases of design: urban analysis, form-finding, paneling, structural solution, development of a parametric prototype able to adapt itself to every part of the space under the highway. A custom software pipeline was built on order to seamlessly and bidirectionally connect a nurbs modeling software (Rhinoceros), a parametric design software (Grasshopper) and a structural analysis software (SAP 2000), rewiring feedback informations into the “info-structure”. After the morphogenetic process, an envelope prototype is developed to cover the spaces between pylons under the highway. The envelope prototype is able to adapt itself to every part of the building. The process is managed using an algorithm developed in Rhino and Grasshopper.
