The Bartlett School of Architecture is one of the best in the world, and we are working with them to provide them with the facilities they deserve. Wates House is a tired and uninspiring building. However this has never prevented the Bartlett consistently providing the highest quality teaching and research. The School, however, has become a victim of its own success, and coupled with the poor condition of the building, is now in chronic need of additional and improved space specifically adapted to its unique pedagogy. Proposals will include an extension to provide enhanced foyer and café space, exhibition space, state of the art workshop facilities and full internal remodelling to provide a variety of teaching and research spaces including seminar rooms, studios, crit spaces, computer clusters and a library together with academic and administrative offices. As part of this project UCL Estates and the Bartlett will be relocated in to temporary facilities on Hampstead Road whilst the main works to Wates House are undertaken.
