The apartment was designed by collective WHYDESIGN, composed by architects Guto Requena, Maurício Arruda and Tatiana Sakurai. WHYDESIGN is an architecture and design collective comprised by 3 architects and professors who use projects as actions that propose spaces and products to make us think, question and feel. With care for the transformation, needs and requirements of modern man, whydesign projects try to use innovative materials and processes, whether for their formal, technological or environmental aspects. Commercial, residential, product and landscape projects are the foundation for beautiful stories to be told and experienced. The project, envisaged for a young urban couple, modified completely the original layout of the penthouse, so as to adequate it to the needs of the couple. Many of the design choices were inspired by the fact that the clients are originally from Brasília, the Brazilian capital and major design reference of the 20th century. Conceived as a focal point of the social area, the spacious balcony received special attention by the architects. Connected to bedroom and bathroom, the visual identity of the balcony was meant to dialogue with the interiors; for this reason, all finishing was removed of the balcony walls to allow sight of the concrete, a material largely used in the interiors. Likewise, the brick wall was painted gray in order not to interrupt the color in which the walls are painted on the inside. The water-resistant woodwork was entirely painted green, once again reinforcing a monochrome visual.
