THE TINY TRANSFORMING APARTMENT | Eva Kubíčková

The young owners have inherited the apartment after grandparents. It was the original. The wall sink and the old stove, which served as the cooking as well as for heating, were in kitchen. Bathroom was very small and can not be fully used. There were also visible pipes and gas flue from old stove. In each room was a different floor: linoleum, cracked tiles and the old parquet wooden deck in the living room. The apartment was not provide sufficient storage spaces.
This apartment is sunny place and is situated in a quiet location with good public facilities and great access to the city center. The decision of young couple was clear - invest wisely in the reconstruction. The basic idea was to combine the element of modern living with the atmosphere of the old brick building.
The budget for reconstruction was limited. Clients followed advice and invested more money to the bathroom, kitchen and floors. The equipments that comes easily replaced, such as sofa, shelves, dining table and chairs, were selected from an affordable shops.
The fact, that the apartment was designed for young childless couple, could arise layout with a spacious hallway, large bathroom with WC, living area with kitchen and bedroom with separated cloakroom.
I selected the bright colors, because the apartment is oriented to the southwest and the whole day is very sunny. Light colours in a room reflect more light and give the impression of space. That is why the corridor has the original height of the room and it is painted white. Also mirror helps for this purpose and it is very practical in the hallway. The photos from holiday are hanged on the opposite wall of the front door. They have positive effect on arrival at the apartment.
The living area consists of several zones: kitchen area, dining area, working space and space with a sofa and TV. I designed white base color in combination with light coffee color and accents of gray and black. The kitchen is designed in polished surface, which also increases the effect of the space. The refreshment of the room is dark red retro fridge. The lighting are ceiling or wall lamps. Even above the dinner table is not used pendant light. It is the purpose. The room look like more spacious.
The bedroom is furnished only the most necessary furniture. It was not necessary to think about the wardrobes because of separated cloakroom. The owners paintings will be hang on the walls.
The bathroom is characterized by simple lines and the combination of gray and cream colors with wooden furniture. The mirror is dominat of this space. The bath tub has shape for bathing and showering too. Washing machine is next to the door and is not immediately visible.
There were radical changes in disposition. The partitions were completely crashed. New partitions have better acoustic. The reconstruction also included new distribution of electricity, water, waste and flue to the chimney. The floors were also exchanged for a new one because the old parquet floor was damaged and it would be more expensive to repair it. New vinyl floor imitates wood and it is practical to the kitchen, bedroom and to the cloakroom too. Also the stone walls in a warm brown color are used in theese two rooms. These elements connect the whole apartment.
