O’Pazo Restaurant. Madrid The new project aims to simplify and plan the floor space to facilitate access, route and relaxation as much for the customer as the workflow for the waiters, achieving wide spaces and a great personality. In the main entrance, a long corridor of hanging fish-shaped wire figures - created by French artist Marie Christophe - stretches; these simulate a shiny silver sea. This is achieved by means of a coating of sheet aluminum and dark glass that sometimes reflects like a mirror and sometimes surprises with its subtle transparency. The effect of this extension of space ensures that the perception and journey are very pleasant. The project divides the surface into two main areas: the lobby access to the restaurant and dining- room, both joined by a central element that creates a nexus of union between them, the waiters’ bar. This aspect takes on a huge role with the implementation of certain suggestive materials such as the spy glass, behind which is revealed the kitchen, the quartz surface of the bar, the oak wood flooring and the attractive lighting. From here, the space opens to a dining room of regular and balanced shape with a few visibly traditional nuances. Through three large windows, there appear three wood-coated boxes, at the back of which radiates a warm and cozy light through stretched PVC fabric; an important element at the level of distribution and lighting. Just opposite, the reserved area breaks subtly into the dining room with a light touch of iron and glass, isolating the space while allowing a set of transparency and continuity that makes the restaurant a wide and comfortable place. Its interior shows the presence of natural oak wood panels which provide a baronial and elegant air to the room. A typical Chesterfield sofa, classic fireplace and antique sideboards lead the customer to feel they are in a classic smoking lounge. The integration of noble materials, treated surfaces and new finishes, as well as equipment that combines classical with avant-garde pieces, are the keys to maintaining the essence of this traditional restaurant, adapted, however, to new trends.
