El Pescador Restaurant. Madrid This is a reform of a restaurant of great tradition in Madrid, in which the project process demanded an updating of the existing space endowing the bar with a greater role, while never forgetting the traditional character of the restaurant. The use of raw iron mesh as the main element gives character and support to the space. Oak wood, used in flooring and walls finishes, provides the restaurant with warmth and tradition. The use of raw iron on the façade together with an aged appearance of paint on the walls, refers a mature aspect that was vital to maintain in the project. After first making contact, one searches for an element of connection between two floors that have gone through a complete redistribution. A mesh of raw iron - an allegory of typical fishing nets - accompanies the visitor throughout and serves as a guide, helping to separate the busy activity of the bar from the more relaxed tranquility of the restaurant. Its functional contribution as a large staircase handrail allows the eye through to the reserved-dining room while maintaining the feeling of space and comfort inside. Typical elements from the marine world are glimpsed in the different environments, endowing the project with a warm and welcoming glow. The recuperation of the façade from1937 was an essential change to the restaurant, and consequently a new presence to the building.
