The main concept of the design for “Sujud Mosque” was inspired by the routine carried
out by a person praying. This involves three stages, the first being in an upright position,
the second, called “Ruku”, is to slightly bow, putting one’s hands on knees, back straight,
with face pointing toward the ground. For the third position, called “Sujud”, one descends
to the ground whilst the forehead lightly touches the ground. The building design mimics
the posture of a Muslim prayer during “Sujud”, the third and final position of prayer,
reflecting the calm and soothing posture that takes place at the end of a Muslim prayer.
