London Fields | SODA.

Completed in December 2013 this project sees a complete renovation, refurbishment and extension of a beautiful, three-storey townhouse located in London Fields, East London. The property itself was formerly divided into separate units and subsequently the lower ground floor was completely unused and in need of major repair works in order to transform into a modern family home. SODA. has created a design which juxtaposes the original Victorian features with a sleek, open-plan kitchen and family room - linked to the gardens via a new-build, timber-clad extension. The remainder of the house has also been remodelled to accommodate additional bedrooms and a loft conversion penned to maximise available space. With ecological design at the top of the agenda, a sustainable, timber-clad extension was proposed to deliberately contrast yet compliment the original brickwork. The design includes a polished concrete slab which flows from the lower ground garden terrace through the kitchen and family rooms and into a bespoke polished shower tray. In a similar fashion, the timber facade cladding was envisioned to wrap seamlessly from vertical to horizontal. It forms a first floor roof terrace with a flush rooflight above the rooms below. Custom designed furniture in the kitchen and dining rooms continues the sleek and minimal design inside, providing a dramatic visual contrast to the sprawling gardens beyond.
