Rapanà House | Marco Costanzi Architects

This project expresses my way to understand and practice architecture and it shows my love for Salento, a place of real and ancient charm. I like to think to the project as a tactile and sensorial exploration of spaces and materials in a minimalism key, but with a particular attention to the atmosphere as a category of beauty. This is not only a holiday home, but it tells my need to escape from the excess of fullness, from noises, from the visual stimulations of the “scenic hypertrophy”. As you can imagine, when you work by yourself, you finally get rid of any conditionings and impediments, that are just heavy accessorizes that accompany the daily job. You can use your own language without any compromise or excuse, showing yourself in the most intimate way, especially when you are designing your home. When you have the fortune to arrive in a place like this one, that gives a special emotion and creates a peculiar atmosphere, the job is done, at least for me because I prefer to work by subtraction. The atmosphere is a category of beauty: for this reason, this project tells the role and the importance of this aspect in my work. In order to search a pause, a lost interval, secular tastes, smells of Mediterranean (myrtle, licorice, thyme, rosemary) towards a void. [IT] Questo progetto esprime il mio modo di intendere e praticare l’architettura e testimonia l’amore per il Salento, un luogo di fascino autentico e remoto. Mi piace pensare al progetto come una esplorazione di qualità tattili e sensoriali dello spazio e dei materiali, in chiave minimalista, ma con una attenzione particolare all’atmosfera intesa come una categoria della bellezza. Questa non è solo una casa per le vacanze ma racconta la mia necessità di fuggire dall’eccesso di pieno, dai rumori, dalle stimolazioni visive della “ipertrofia scenica”. Come è facile immaginare, quando si lavora per se stessi, ci si libera finalmente da condizionamenti e impedimenti, accessori pesanti che spesso accompagnano il lavoro quotidiano. E’ possibile utilizzare il proprio linguaggio senza compromessi senza più scuse mostrandosi, soprattutto quando si progetta la propria casa, nel più intimo. Quando si ha la fortuna di arrivare in un luogo come questo, che trasmette un certo tipo di emozione, atmosfera, il più è fatto, almeno per me che preferisco lavorare per sottrazione. L’atmosfera è una categoria della bellezza, così questo progetto racconta il ruolo e l’importanza di questo aspetto nel mio lavoro. Va verso la ricerca di una pausa, di un intervallo perduto, di sapori secolari, odori di macchia mediterranea (mirto, liquirizia, timo, rosmarino), verso un vuoto.
