This compact house is located in a quiet neighborhood in Tienen . Proposed by the architects vision has led to a remarkable architectural appearance that attracts attention in the street but whose shape remains very sober. Thanks to the total housing concept one could provide an answer to the limited budget and the not so favorable orientation of the land . To exploit the southwestern orientation to the street as possible , the architects swapped the " front and back " . That way they have a terrace and a garden, not at the back of the house , but on the street side, so that the living areas could be targeted towards the southwest orientation. In this logic to rotate the traditional location of the areas, the front door of the housing is lacated at the back of the building. The open staircase in the entrance hall brings us to the lower living spaces or to the bedrooms on the first floor . The living areas are located half a level below the street level , so the relationship with the outside world is changing and the living rooms have plenty of privacy . The privacy of the home will be protected by a beech hedge all around the garden. The contrast in the material between the lower level and the floor reflects the very different relationships with the 'outside world' . While one can look from the living room through wide windows directly outside the rooms on the floor more inward . Therefore, with the exception of the glass opening in the rear, the whole floor is surrounded by a "shell" of bricks. For the masonry , the choice fell on an extruded stone, normally used for acoustic noise walls along the highways . The shelf has become the viewing area , allowing the hue better suited to the surrounding houses from the fifties . Because of this tilt and stacked masonry respect the view of the house gives a first glance at something or some strange image . From the rooms, which were designed as single bedrooms , the windows can be opened with a view of the back of the facing stone wall , the perforated bricks to the outside light soft ' hint ' as through a veil .
