The villa is a newly constructed three-storey building overlooking the Gulf of Policastro in Praia a Mare. The project was commissioned by a couple of entrepreneurs in the tourism business, in love with the seaside and the Aeolian Islands where they often go by boat. Their fondness for the archipelago and the sea considerably influenced the architectural design, which evokes the atmosphere and the dark tones typical of a volcanic atmosphere. The inner mood, an unusually dark one, recalls the colours of a volcano, and this is also reflected in the materials chosen: Basalt volcanic rock, absolute black granite, layers of burnished brass that frame the green reflection from the water in the pool. The soft lighting by designers Cannata & Partners emphasizes the cryptic manners that contrast with the outer skin clad with white stones, and with the large terrace tiles made from ivory resin. The ground floor is entirely dedicated to the living area. The large open area comprises the kitchen, completely covered with ebony and black granite to reinforce the concept of a dark house. The kitchen’s peninsula stretches out into the living area where the free-standing low sofa overlooks both the pool and the fireplace. The fireplace, surmounted by a large sheet of burnished brass, is inserted in a long black granite bench that links all the different areas of the living room and reaches as far as the dining area adjacent to the large windows that open out onto the sea. Hiding behind the fixed glazing that separates the living from the pool is a sophisticated home theatre system. The indoor pool, which is always visible from the living area, ideally resembles a smooth sheet of green water topped by a continuous white ribbon that makes up the ceiling and wall. The white wall is made from a material designed by LG HI-MACS. The wall conceals a Turkish bath, and stretches out on the ceiling where circular recesses host hidden lighting fixtures. The circular recesses are a nod to the idea of the natural lighting that comes down from above, and that can be installed in a home automation system in a variety of hues. The first floor is entirely dedicated to the children, with spacious bedrooms that can either be used for playing or studying. The rooms feature bright colours and sixties-style furnishings. The second floor hosts the master suite, a walk-in-wardrobe and a studio that opens onto a large terrace overlooking the sea, the most privileged point above the scenic landscape. [IT] La villa, costruita ex novo su tre piani, si affaccia sul Golfo di Policastro ed è stata commissionata da una coppia di imprenditori del settore turistico innamorata delle isole Eolie (in particolare di Stromboli), meta abituale delle loro escursioni in barca. Proprio l’intensità del mare, delle isole vulcaniche e dei contrasti cromatici forti ha ispirato il progetto, determinandone il mood dark degli interni, piuttosto insolito per una villa mediterranea sul mare e in forte contrasto con la pelle esterna dell’edifico in pietra bianca. I proprietari, grandi viaggiatori e assidui frequentatori di resort esclusivi, hanno anche chiesto allo Studio di riportare nella villa il comfort di un grande albergo e il glamour dei locali internazionali. Il piano terra è interamente dedicato alla zona giorno e ruota attorno alla scenografi ca piscina interna, separata dal living da una vetrata fissa (che nasconde una sofisticata apparecchiatura per l’home theatre) e illuminata ad arte dai light designers Cannata & Partners. La piscina, sempre visibile dal soggiorno e sua continuazione ideale, è uno specchio d’acqua verde sormontato da un nastro continuo bianco parete-soffitto. La parete di fondo in LG HI-MACS bianco incisa ad onde a riprendere il moto dell’acqua, nasconde il bagno turco e si allunga sul soffitto disegnando degli sfondati circolari che ospitano giochi di luce, declinabili in diverse tonalità cromatiche, attraverso un sistema domotico. L’insolito mood dark del piano terra viene esaltato dalla scelta dei materiali: la pietra lavica Basaltina per i pavimenti, il granito nero assoluto, l’ottone brunito, il gesso color grigio tortora per le pareti. Nel grande open space si sviluppa la cucina a penisola, realizzata su disegno dello Studio, in ebano e granito nero a rafforzare la matrice materica del progetto. Un’isola, costituita da bassi divani free standing in pelle bianca gode della vista contemporaneamente della piscina e del camino. Quest’ultimo è sovrastato da una grande veletta in ottone brunito ed è inserito in una lunga panca in granito nero che lega tutti gli ambienti del living fi no alla zona pranzo adiacente alle vetrate sul mare. Il primo piano è interamente dedicato ai bambini, mentre il secondo ospita la suite padronale, completa di cabine armadio e studio, che si apre verso il mare con un ampio terrazzo in resina dalla tipica iconografi a eolica, divenendo prolungamento della camera e punto privilegiato di osservazione dello scenografico panorama.
