House Y | Hiroyuki Shinozaki Architects

Situated in a residential area of tokyo, away from the highrises and busy streets of shinjuku is 'house Y', a small dwelling on a corner site  which has been conceived to accommodate two families. the exterior is composed of a 120mm thick shell of concrete, with the material applied on the interior as well, where it forms the 300mm floating structural floors which extend off of a central foyer. this entrance hall serves as a communal area between both homes, while also dividing them.  it has been openly designed so that the rooms of each residence--kitchen, bedroom, living and dining areas--situated on opposite sides of this shaft, have views into the four-storey void. in designing the shared space, we wanted to make it 'adjustable', taking into account the changes in family life with each of the rooms having been made to increase in size. 新宿の超高層ビル群から少し離れた東京の都心の住宅街の中に建つ、２世帯の家族のための住宅である。 １階から屋上のテラスまで、４層分を繋げる階段がある小さなホワイエスペースが中心となってこの住宅は構成されている。家族それぞれの寝室やキッチン、リビング、ダイニング、バスやトイレなど全ての部屋がこの小さなホワイエに面していて、２世帯の家族がここを介して交わりながらそれぞれ生活していく構成になっている。玄関を開けてここに入ると、誰かがどこからかドアを開けて顔をのぞかせる、そんなこの家族の風景がつくれればと考えていた。 この住宅は、300ｍｍ厚のコンクリートで囲われてできているこの小さなホワイエの頂部から傘をひろげるように薄い120ｍｍ厚のコンクリートが垂れ下がって外殻をかたち作って、地面から少し浮いて張り出しているスラブと一体になった構造になっている。そしてそれぞれの部屋は木梁で床が作られていて、家族の生活の変化に必要に応じて部屋を増やすことができるようになっている。 この小さなホワイエは、都心の密集した住宅街の路地と屋上のテラスからのパノラマの眺望を繋ぎ、そしてこの家族それぞれをも繋ぐものになってくれればと思う。
